How We Met

03.15.2016

Our story begins in the most currently cliché way imaginable: a dating app. Daniel sent the first message, and from that moment there was a spark. After a few weeks of messaging back and forth, we decided to meet up for the first time at Cali n Tito's in Athens. As our meal came to a close, we were having such a good conversation, we decided to keep the night going and go to downtown Athens. At the end of the night we had our first kiss and it was perfect. From then on, we continued to get to know each other over movie dates, kayaking trips, hiking, and lots of good food until on March 15th, 2016 Daniel asked me to be his girlfriend. And well, the rest is history.

The Proposal

09.21.2020

As everyone knows, 2020 was an incredibly difficult year, interrupting so many plans. It was probably August or so we had finally had enough and decided to follow through with the idea of visiting Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. Within a month we booked flights, an AirBnB and headed off to Wyoming. We've always shared a passion for the outdoors and this trip was a perfect accumulation of that. We had planned several hikes, with the second day being our most ambitious hike of all: 16.2 (which turned into 18.4) miles from the start of Jenny Lake, through Cascade Canyon and up to Lake Solitude. Neither of us had ever hiked even close to this far, but we were determined. About two miles in, we came to a location called "Inspiration Point". It's a cliff that overlooks Lake Jenny, with the entrance to the canyon in the background. Daniel pulled me aside and said that we should take some pictures and a short video to document the area. He had me stand near the cliffside as he positioned his camera. He finally came over and said "it's rolling", then he kissed and hugged me. He then bent down on one knee, and pulled a red box from his pocket and said "So will you marry me?" I'd say it's the easiest yes I've ever said, except I could barely get it out through the tears and smiles. Reenergized, we then proceeded to successfully hike 18.4 miles over the span of 12 hours, and though our bodies were sore to the bone by the end of it, it was the most fulfilling day of our lives, and we couldn't have imagined a better engagement.
