Daniel and Melinda first met as flute players in Leslie Middle School’s wind ensemble, but they didn't really get to know one another until high school basketball band. During basketball games, Melinda kept getting into trouble for always being in the euphonium section talking to her friend, so after being called out repeatedly by their teacher, she started brainstorming questions to ask “that shy, quiet guy” so that sitting in the flute section wouldn’t be so awkward and boring.
The next year at the Grants Pass high school marching band competition Daniel broke out some sweet dance moves, and Melinda realized if she didn’t act fast, one of those other “band broads” would steal him away. She decided to ask him to the Sadie Hawkins winter dance by carving it out in Pumpkins.
12 years later they have traveled globally and frequently, spent many more hours in school and in rehearsals, moved to London for two years, and then back to the PNW. They still regularly have dance breaks, now, mostly in their own kitchen.
Just before leaving London, Daniel surprised Melinda with a trip to Paris. He planned the weekend around the musical fountain show at the Palace of Versailles and created a Harry Potter style “marauders map” of the Palace Gardens. The map’s walkways were lined with 100 reasons why he loves her, and as they walked around each of the garden areas he revealed moments from their relationship that were important to him. At the end of the map, in front of the fountain of Apollo at the Grand Canal, he pulled out a golden snitch and got down on one knee with an orange sapphire.
We want to thank everyone who has supported us, loved us, and stood by us, both as a couple and as individuals. We would not be who we are today without the amazing community that surrounds us. We want to express our gratitude with good food, good wine, and a good time. We hope that you will join us.
