Manteo is a town on Roanoke Island, separated from the rest of the Outer Banks by two bridges that connect the island to Nags Head. Manteo is about a 5 minute drive from south Nags Head. Fun facts: Manteo has the only true "downtown" in Outer Banks and was home to Andy Griffith!
October in Outer Banks can bring the best weather with temperatures in the 60s and 70s. BUT, it can also be chilly and windy. Our wedding's outside, so let's hope for the best but plan for the worst just in case.
We ask that you please wear cocktail or garden attire, but we want you to be comfortable! Our ceremony and reception take place outside on a grass lawn, so keep that in mind when picking out your shoes. If you like to go the extra mile and want to color coordinate, we're having a mismatch wedding with greens and floral-inspired colors.
If you're traveling from "back home," then you're looking at around a 6 hour drive - depending on how often you stop along the way. We recommend planning to stay at least the night of our wedding, but you'll likely want to stay the night before, too. Check our Travel section for the most affordable accommodations!
If you're flying in, you'll want to fly into Norfolk International Airport (ORF). Just know that the airport is a 2 hour drive from Manteo, so you'll need a rental car or plan to catch a ride from someone passing through Norfolk on their way to and from Outer Banks.
If you can swing it, yes! October is one of the best times to visit the Outer Banks. The busy season has died down but the weather can be perfect for the beach, still. If you stay 2 or 3 nights here, you'll find plenty to do to make a weekend of your trip! Check our Recommendations section for some ideas of things to do/see.
