Hearst Castle
For those driving up the coast stop at this gem along the way in San Luis Obispo. William Randolph Hearst started to build this estate on his ranch land overlooking the village of San Simeon in 1919. By 1947, the hilltop complex included a twin-towered main building, three guest houses, and 127 acres of terraced gardens, fountains and pools.
The Town of Cambria
Along the drive up to Big Sur is charming Cambria which is an irresistible destination on its own and the perfect pit stop. The village’s commercial area is divided into two distinct sections along Main Street. With some buildings dating to the 19th century, Cambria’s East Village is the oldest part of town; in both West and East Villages you’ll find art galleries and eateries. Across Highway 1, is Moonstone Beach where you can stroll above the surf on a bluff-top boardwalk.
Fernwood Campground and Resort
Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park and Fernwood Resort share a border and you can easily hike into the state park from our advised campground.
