There are a number of easy and affordable ways to get to Oaxaca. Most flights make a stop in Mexico City, so you have the option of finding a flight with Oaxaca as the destination, or you can book one round-trip ticket to Mexico City and a second roundtrip ticket from Mexico City to Oaxaca. If you do this, just look for flights on one of three Mexican airlines that flies to Oaxaca: Interjet, Volaris, or Aeromexico. These tickets cost about $75-$100 roundtrip; flight time to Oaxaca is about 45 minutes.

Travel Note

Nearby Desinations

If you're looking to make a longer vacation out of your trip, there are a number of nearby destinations. Oaxacan Coast: Puerto Escondido or Huatulco are well-known beach destinations in Oaxaca state. The Zicatela Beach at Puerto Escondido draws international crowds of surfers and bodyboarders and is known as the "Mexican Pipeline". Huatulco is a smaller fishing port with great snorkeling. You will need to fly through Mexico City in order to get to the coast. Mexico City: Mexico City was the #1 destination in 2016 as named by New York Times. You get a little bit of everything in this massive city, including "the world’s best cuisine, museums and forward-thinking design."
