Question

How do I get around?

Answer

Most New Yorkers get where they need to go via the elaborate subway system. Download the Transit app or the MTA map before you arrive, and load up a Metrocard in a station with some funds to start with, which you’ll then swipe every time you enter. Routes are defined by their terminus stations on either end, and you’ll want to remember where each borough is in relation to each other for easier navigation. Uber, Lyft, and VIA are popular rideshare services, though the classic taxi can also be hailed via the Curb app. They do also take cards in-car. The bicycle-sharing service, Citi Bike, is also a common and very economical way to get around. After downloading an app, you unlock a bike with your phone and can use it for a certain period of time before returning it to a dock.

Question

What should I wear to the wedding?

Answer

Attire will be formal, but it’s not a black-tie event. It’s New York baby, so get a bit glitzy and have some fun! The event space is indoors and air-conditioned.

Question

What’s the weather like?

Answer

New York in the summer is considerably hot, and especially humid in Manhattan. It can get a bit breezy by the water, so generally you’ll want light layers, and comfortable shoes for walking.

Question

What’s the dining out situation like currently in New York City?

Answer

Dining is currently at 50% capacity in NYC including indoor and outdoor dining. There are so many wonderful places to eat that are fully open and, while you can sometimes walk in and be seated, we recommend checking on the restaurant’s website prior to visiting to determine if a reservation is necessary or not. NYC also has wonderful apps to download to book your reservation (if you don’t like calling to reserve a table) for your party including OpenTable and Resy. Food that is more grab-n-go does not require a reservation. Simple show up, order, and wait for your food to be ready before taking it to the nearest park to eat outside.

Question

What’s the best airport to fly into?

Answer

LaGuardia and JFK are closest to the venue in Brooklyn. You can take a subway (after paying for the Airtrain) from JFK, but there is no subway service to LaGuardia, so you’ll need to use a rideshare to get to and from there. We don’t recommend Newark Airport unless you are staying in New Jersey. See our travel tab on our website for more detailed info.

Question

Where do I stay?

Answer

The neighborhood of Downtown Brooklyn is closest to the venue, Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Long Island City, Astoria, and most of the Manhattan borough are reasonably accessible. AirBNB and VRBO rentals are available, as are most hotel chains. See our travel tab for a few recommendations.

Question

How can I pay for things?

Answer

It’s wise to have some cash on hand for the occasional cash-only spot, but cards are widely accepted, with moderate support for phone-based payments like Apple Pay or Google Pay.
