Pinellas County Florida is a peninsula separating Tampa from the Gulf of Mexico. The north end of the county is Tarpon Springs and the southern end is St. Petersburg. In between the two ends is tons of stuff to do—parks, nature trails, the Pinellas Trail, museums, boat trips, beaches……
Tarpon Springs has an interesting history. It was settled by Greek sponge divers. You can visit the Historic Sponge docks. The historic area has shops and places to eat—some specializing in Greek Food.
***NOTE: Now that Covid is easing, the folks in Tarpon Springs have planned the 33rd Annual Sponge Docks Seafood Festival for November 12 – 14. Plan for slow moving traffic, crowds on the docks and not a lot of parking spaces.***
From the docks in Tarpon Springs, there are boat trips out to Anclote Island- a nature preserve / beach with good sea shell hunting. There are also dolphin watching trips. Fishing charters.
There are a couple of scuba dive shops in Tarpon Springs that offer local diving trips.
