Summer of 2023, God called us both to Camp Shawnee. Dan all the way from Massachusetts, Hannah from 2 counties over. Camp Shawnee is a summer camp founded and operated by the Christian Appalachian Project, situated in the Appalachian Mountains of East Kentucky, founded on the heart of service and inspiration for underserved Appalachian youth. We started off as friends and co-counselors, but really hit it off by the time Dan completed his term of service that summer. Dan left to go home to Massachusetts, Hannah headed off to university in Lexington, KY. However, Dan didn't stay gone from KY for too long. The Lord called him to commit to serving with the Christian Appalachian Project for 2 years in their Elderly Home Repair Program! During that time we stayed in touch. Served together for a week the summer of 2024. In the summer of 2025 we saw each other that summer and the Lord opened our eyes and both of our hearts. Dan's service in KY was coming to a close and he didn't want to leave East Kentucky without his girl, and Hannah's heart broke imagining a future without Dan in it. The timing is that which only the Lord could have orchestrated. His handiwork is seen throughout the entirety of our story, beginning long before He ever brought us together in 2023.
