"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths."
I thought it was just a small beach date. A time to catch up from both of our summer trips, eat food, and watch the sunset. One thing that we've done through the 15 months we had been dating is exchange little notes in bottles. Whether it be just on a whim or for a long trip away, we'd give little notes of sweet nothings, funny quips, and little messages to brighten each other's days. Daniel explained, this time, that the notes would be "questions for couples." And I, thinking nothing of it, go along with it and suggested that we take turns drawing from the jar and reading each other the questions. "What's one dream date idea?" "What do you like most about our relationship?" "What has been the most challenging thing so far?" "What is the most memorable date?" We eventually get to the last note, just as the sun is about to set, and it conveniently ended with me picking it out of the jar. After getting it unstuck, with Daniel using the sticky note adhesive as an excuse for its being stuck, I read the final question. "Will you marry me?" A moment of silence, and after me rereading it twice more, I look over at Daniel and start to tear up. "Will you marry me, Eve?" Daniel asks and I start to cry. "Yes! oh my goodness is this really happening? Of course yes!" He assures me that it is real and I start crying all over again. After listening to "the cutest crying ever" (Daniel of course said this), he finally directed my attention to the ring and put it onto my finger. We ended up staying on the beach past sunset and talking about plans for the future under the stars.
