This is where all of our wedding festivities are taking place! The Old Port has something for everyone, from shops and boutiques, to all sorts of restaurants. Portland is known for its fresh seafood, especially lobster! The quaint cobble stone streets and waterfront sites and smells will make for a memorable experience. If you’re looking to ship lobsters back home, we recommend Harbor Fish Market.
“The Eastern Prom” as the locals call it. For those who like to get in a walk, Fort Allen Park is located on the Eastern Prom. With sweeping views of Casco Bay and a beautiful rolling lawn, it is the perfect place to sit back and enjoy the views or take a nice stroll around the park. It takes 23 mins. to walk from City Hall to Fort Allen Park one way.
Portland Head Light is easily the most photographed lighthouse in Maine, and possibly the country. It is majestic and beautiful, and a short (20 min.) ride from downtown Portland.
The iconic cruise ships are a staple of Portland Harbor. Casco Bay is dotted with hundreds of islands. The larger islands are inhabited and accessible only by ferry. The Casco Bay Cruise Lines offer many scenic cruises of the harbor and its islands. This is a great take for those looking to unwind and see Portland from the water. We love going to Peak's Island to bike around and have a lobster roll. All cruises depart from the Old Port.
Peaks Island is a quick 20 minute ferry ride from Portland. Its close proximity makes it a popular destination for visitors. There are a few restaurants on the island, as well as bike rentals (Brad’s bike rentals) to cruise the perimeter road. During the warmer months, you can often find live reggae music at Jones Landing Bar & Restaurant.
Portland is a well known food mecca of the Northeast with several recent James Beard winners. There are so many to choose from. Here are a couple of our favorites, Scales, Fore Street, Street & Co., Duckfat, Old Port Sea Grill, Eventide Oyster. If you are looking for casual, The Porthole, Ri Ra’s and Flatbread Pizza are our favorites. We also love The Standard Baking Company for morning coffee and baked goods.
There are dozens of breweries in Portland. Some of the most popular are Bissell Bros., Austin Street, Rising Tide, Lone Pine, Goodefire, Battery Steele, Fore River, Allagash, etc. You get the idea! There are many to choose from.
If you are looking to venture outside of Portland, feel free to reach out for more recommendations! We love Brunswick and Freeport for shopping and a hike at Wolfe's Neck State Park. Crescent Beach, Reid State Park and Popham Beach are all great options for beautiful sandy beaches. There are so many small towns along the coast that are fun to explore - we love Camden, Rockland, Boothbay and Damariscotta the most! Maine has many amazing places to explore from the lakes to the ocean.
