After "swiping right" & talking for a couple weeks I thought to myself "He is cute, sweet & keeps me laughing. I am going to go for it". So I took the plunge & asked first if he would like to meet up one night for dinner. What was Daniels answer? "I cant this weekend. We just got our power bill & its $600 so I have to pay that". Looking back, I now know that the house he was renting was super old & had horrible insulation so this makes sense. What did I think at the time though? This guy is coming up with the lamest excuse! He could have just said no! So I ghosted him & never responded back. What can I say. I am a stubborn girl & wasn't going to be the first one to say something back after that response...Flash forward a couple weeks, I finally hear back from Daniel. To my surprise, he asked to take me to one of his favorite restaurants in Mobile & after making him sweat a little bit, I agreed. That following weekend, we went out to Callaghan's for food & drinks. The thing that I remember most about that night was how easy it was to talk to him & how comfortable he made me feel. By the end of the night, I knew that I wanted to pursue the relationship further. Little did I know there would never be a dull moment with The Danimal, but I wouldn't change it for the world.
After months of discussion with friends/family; countless suggestions on how to do it; the time had finally arrived for me to make an honest woman out of Cassy. The cheddar was saved, the ring was in the virtual cart, payment information entered, & nothing left to do but click “Submit”. From that moment forward “The Ring” engulfed my every thought. Will she like it? Will it turn her finger green? Will I be able to get up after I hit a knee? I’m confident she will say yes, so what the hell am I so stressed about? The ring was shipped to my work & kept under lock & key in a safe for almost 2 weeks. Being on vacation for Christmas; with plans to travel to Rabbit Town for the holiday; it was finally time to take it home. Once home, I immediately hid the ring inside my secret hiding spot. Another hurdle cleared! Permission had been granted by Cassy’s parents, everything was ready to go for a holiday proposal in North Alabama! I just had to wait it out! Only 3 hrs had passed, & It felt like Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart”. I swear that ring was alive! That night Cassy decided to call it an early night. My nerves were shot. I knew I wouldn’t be able to wait. The anxiety and anticipation of the moment was too much! I texted her mom asking if I should propose now!? Her response, “follow your heart”. Then something clicked, it was almost like a light bulb went off in my head. It was then that I knew it didn’t matter how this thing goes down because it’s not about the ring. It’s about us. It’s about everything that ring represents, and it didn’t have to be extravagant to be meaningful. So I did what any man in love would do! I woke Cassy up from her slumber and asked her to stand up because there was “something I needed to tell her”. Poor Cassy was half asleep & probably scared to death, but that quickly changed as I hit one knee at the bedside & asked her to be in my life forever. Tears of joy were shed, our dog Max approved, and the rest they say is history!
