Dan and Brianna met at First Presbyterian Church while they both were involved in their Praise Team. They had known each other for 3 years when Brianna started to bug Dan about him going to a hockey game with her church. His comeback to her was for her to come to his game in Brookings, where she was at school. She had a split finals schedule and the games were supposed to be in-between those two weeks. Well, Dan gave Brianna the dates wrong and it was the weekend after finishing finals so after finishing finals, Brianna was moving home for Christmas break. That weekend Brianna drove back to Brookings to watch Dan play. After hanging out a few more times over break, they officially started dating. Within that first year of dating, Dan received the opportunity to go play junior hockey in New Hampshire. They then went long distance without seeing each other in person for about 4 months at a time. COVID struck and brought him home. For the following two years, Dan played hockey for Iowa State and Brianna finished her schooling at SDSU. Lots of road trips back and forth to see one another but all those moments have helped them reach the point they are at today.

Dan can home for the weekend on March 31st. Brianna was slightly suspicious that something might be going on once she saw Dan messaging her best friend. He said she was asking him about the houses we planned to tour the next day. This didn't seem right to Brianna but she went along with it. The next day, they toured houses and spent time together. The entire time Brianna thought it was going to happen. That night, Dan asked Brianna to attend church with him and his family the next day. After church, Dan took Brianna's keys and started driving towards Brianna's house. As this wasn't out of the normal Brianna continued to think nothing was happening. All of a sudden Dan turned to go a different way. As they drove by East Lake, Brianna looked across the lake and at Isthmus Park was Brianna's best friend's car. At this point, Brianna started to get a good idea of what was happening. As they pulled up, Dan walked Brianna under the gazebo. They stood under it for a minute and talked. Dan says, "Brianna Noelle, I have a question for you." He gets down on one knee and say, "Will you marry me?" Brianna, of course says yes and the rest is history!
