Daniel and I met when he was 16 and I was 14 through Facebook, despite living less than 10 minutes away from each other. One random day, on July 2nd, I left a post on his FB wall and he suggested that "maybe we should start talking". From there, we texted every day. Our first phone call went on for hours, as we waited to see the sunrise. We became and stayed good friends while I went into my freshman year and he went into his junior year of the same high school. No matter where life has taken us, we have been best friends since that first day.
I always tell people that Daniel and I grew up together. Because we really did. We officially started dating when he was 18 and I was 16. There began our long story of love. We have experienced so much of life's joys and challenges together. We have loved each other fully through it all, even in our time apart. No matter what, our love has never faltered. Together or apart, Daniel and I are best friends. We trust that no matter what may come as we continue to grow together, we will always find and choose each other.
Daniel proposed in Austin, Texas, right on South Congress Avenue. We have a lock on the Austin Locks wall there for our 10 year anniversary of meeting (placed there in 07/02/2021). We stopped at this location before heading to dinner at our usual Austin spot. Daniel sneakily purchased a new lock for us, a bright red heart lock, while at the shop next to the locks wall. He handed it to me as we left the shop, suggesting we put up a new one. While I went to the locks and tried to think of what to write on it, Daniel left to the car around the corner to “grab something”. He came back and forth a few times. I was confused, but turns out he was desperately looking for someone to take our picture. He finally made his way back, out of luck, with a bouquet of roses in hand. He approached me and immediately said “I love you..” and I knew it was happening. He began talking and all I remember saying is “this doesn’t feel real”. He ended by saying I am his best friend and asked if I would marry him and I said YES! As we hugged, a couple with their baby cheered us on. They had stopped when they realized it was a proposal and waited to cheer for us and take pictures for us! What perfect timing…
