God’s timing is perfect. Our mothers met before we officially did. They became friends while they were stuck at the airport for 12 hours waiting for their flight to Israel. As they sat down to eat lunch together, one spoke about her son who was leaving the seminary and itinerant life after 10 years, and the other shared that she had a daughter who would soon be leaving on mission after the pilgrimage to Israel. It took two years before we officially met. There were many opportunities along the way, but somehow something always got in the way. One of us had a heart that was very hard and closed to the possibility of a relationship, while the other was simply open to God’s will. After she returned from her two years in mission, he asked her on a date. She said yes partly to prove to herself, and to everyone else, that this was not meant to be. But the Lord had other plans. Little by little, through his kindness, his gentleness, and above all his patience and love, her heart softened and she realized she couldn’t let him go. The rest is history.
