How We Met

December 2013

Mónica moved back to live in Tegucigalpa in the summer of 2013. She had just graduated college and was eager to start her professional career in Honduras. She was also very eager to enjoy her time back home and celebrate countless weekends with her friends who were coming back from college as well. Daniel moved to Tegucigalpa in the spring of 2013. He arrived with a head full of big plans and ideas, and eager to manage the family business in Honduras. Like Mónica, Daniel wasn't all about work . He enjoyed going out on weekends and getting to know the town that had recently embraced him. It wasn't until December of 2013 that Mónica and Daniel's paths finally crossed. It was at a mutual friend's Christmas dinner where they were introduced. Sadly, sparks did not fly between our lovers at this first encounter. They did however start a mild friendship that was fueled by random encounters at restaurants, parties, and even at the gym. Daniel's interest in Mónica started to build with each and every encounter. He loved her natural charm, her bright personality and her warm smile. Every meeting between the two left Daniel evermore intrigued and fascinated by everything about her. Finally, on one last random encounter, Daniel asked Mónica out to a party that they were both invited to. This did not lead to anything however. Mónica left the party early and Daniel wasn't able to talk her into staying. Finally in may 2015, Mónica and Daniel's friendship, now very strong, led them to make plans to travel to El Salvador, they set off on a trip that would start their romance.

The Proposal

May 22, 2017

The place was Boston, Massachusetts, the date was Monday May 22nd 2017. Mónica and Daniel had arrived here together with their respective families to attend Mónica's sister and brother in law's graduation from Boston University the previous Saturday and Sunday. Daniel took advantage of the gathering of both families to organize a surprise engagement celebration for Mónica on the top floor of Prudential Center. Mónica's family tended to their matters and made no plans with her that Monday so that Daniel could enjoy a day with her before his proposal evening. Daniel and Mónica enjoyed lunch at the Isabella Stewart Garden Museum, wandered the shops at Copley Place, and even spent some time at the Prudential Center mall, all the while the families (Aguirre and Parras) quietly arrived at Top of The Hub restaurant where the proposal would take place. The hour finally came and Daniel lead an unsuspecting Mónica to the 52nd floor of the building where he had a table reservation for two. The couple shared a bottle of wine, while Daniel figured out the best way to propose. After some hors d'oeuvres, Daniel took a knee and proposed in the middle of the crowded restaurant. Applause was heard throughout the room as Mónica said YES. Daniel then took Mónica by the hand and led her to the private room he had set up where both their families were waiting to congratulate the happy couple. Mónica was overwhelmed with of joy and excitement as she hugged her mom and dad never expecting to be surprised in this way. Mónica spent the rest of the night asking all kinds of questions. Mónica wanted to know every little detail. Everything from how he asked for her hand in marriage, how he chose the ring and all the planning he had done before that led to the most amazing night of her life.
