How It Started: They say love finds you when you least expect it, and that could not be more true for us. In September 2020, after several months of isolation and uncertainty in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, we met online and discovered we lived half a mile apart. Our first date was a nature hike at Silverwood Park. Justin arrived with coffee, and with an enthusiastic “Hey duder!” he approached Dan waiting patiently on a park bench. We spent hours talking about video games, D&D, movies, and our experiences during the pandemic. How It Went: Since then we have hiked countless more miles and shared thousands of meals made with love. We have laughed at ridiculous movies, cried at concerts, stared in awe as the sun rose over a mist-covered Lake Superior. However, like any relationship, we have faced obstacles that have tested our patience, resolve, and faith. Whether it’s been financial struggles, caring for our 22 year old cat, or debating which Sex and The City character is the worst next to Carrie, we have tackled each obstacle together. The Proposal: After a dinner of lamb, gnocchi, and frog legs at 112 Eatery in Minneapolis on our third anniversary, Justin brought out an anniversary card with a special gift inside. Folded into the envelope was a Rings of Brighthearth card from one of our favorite games, Magic: The Gathering and a note that read, “I didn’t know your ring size, but will you marry me anyway?” Dan said yes and agreed to be Justin’s forever Player 2. The Future: As we stand together to declare our commitment, we're filled with excitement for the adventures that lie ahead. Together, we'll continue to laugh, to love, and to build a life filled with joy, passion, and endless possibilities. And geriatric cats. Love, Dan and Justin
