On an otherwise mundane Wednesday in November of 2017, Josh Sperling was in New York City for work. Over lunch with a group of friends from summer camp, Josh (ever the networker/yenta/connector of humans) encouraged Elisa to join him and his high school buddies for dinner later that evening in order to meet his friend, Dan. Despite her skepticism (expecting a boring frat boy, perhaps?), and with the support of a $20 bill her mom had slipped her earlier in the day, Elisa made her way to a Thai restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen. Although both were a bit begrudging of the set-up, Dan (expecting a dirty hippie wearing tie dye and dreadlocks, perhaps?) and Elisa were entirely unprepared for the night that ensued: Dan gave Elisa an Oliver Twist sized portion of his curry, they discussed co-founding a 3D printing business (the specifics of which will only be revealed to mature parties once we are legally bound to one another), each left the table at some point to give him/herself a reality/lipstick check. Dan and childhood friend, Renan Borelli, already had tickets to see a concert that night. When Renan saw the sparks, however, he selflessly forfeited a night listening to Spoon and insisted that everyone go to karaoke instead. After a late night of belting choice hits from the late 1990s and early 2000s, Dan managed to sneak in a smooch before walking Elisa to the subway. After both had returned home, Dan texted Elisa that he was “surprised and delighted” to have met her. They made a date to meet at Tompkins Square Park 2 days later. They promptly fell in love. They are over the moon to invite you all to join them on what will be a wildly eventful and memorable night in November of 2019 to celebrate their marriage.
