Officially we meet through Facebook dating. I always joke he barely made the cut because I decided to put myself on this new dating app the next day I had over 300 likes (I thought this can’t be real or I wouldn’t still be single). I had to come up with a filter to get though all the requests so I came up with some rules, one being if they had a shirtless picture they are automatically cut. I did this because 99.9999% of the time they looked like they thought they were gods gift to woman. But this one guy who had a shirtless pic I did a double scroll on because something said he really is shy hiding behind a bottle of tequila and the no shirt is to show off his chest plate tattoo more than anything. Once I matched with him we chatted through the app a lot really getting to know each other first. He was sly and got my number eventually by using a scenic view of his hotel suite to entice me (you can’t send pictures through the app). I thought we had planned a first date, to attend a live taping of a podcast I love during sketch fest SF however due to miscommunication it was postponed another week. This gave us three full weeks of just talking and really getting to know each other before meeting face to face. We eventually had our first date attending a benefit for the Australian Bush fires (remember how 2020 started). He almost canceled because sadly this was the day we lost the great Kobe Bryant and he was understandably upset. I am glad he didn’t and I had a great time taking him to a theater function were he could meet and see my talented friends perform. As theater is my home my family it was really a treat to have him experience that right away. I however was starving after the concert and we were in the mission and the only place I could think of that was open was the Krispy Krunchy chicken. Which happens to be in a gas station by the Victoria. I was slightly embarrassed to take a chef there but promised good chicken and he luckily agreed that it was. As we ate gas station chicken and walked the street of San Francisco looking for a bar, no pretense, no airs being put on, just being ourselves I felt right at home with him. We both say it was the best first date, and it really was, we just clicked. As we were dating we began to find out that we were neighbors for a year, and both of us knew people from our places of work. I started to say that we were just orbiting each other and finally intersected. We became official on February 2nd 2020 and then in the middle of March coming back from what was supposed to be a wine tasting weekend we received the shelter in place orders. I asked him in complete desperation to stay with me for the “2 weeks”. He now jokingly says it has been the longest two weeks of his life, because he never left. We have been through many ups and downs with all of the crazy in the world and with ourselves but we have always said that “your crazy matches my crazy”. As Wade Wilson says “we’re like two jigsaw pieces, you know, and we have weird curvy edges” to which Vanessa says “but when you fit them together and you see the picture on top” #curvyedges23
