2009 - Dan and I first met in high school, but didn't start dating until my first semester of college after a bonfire at the beach that Heather had planned. A handful of dates later and things fell apart because the timing wasn't right for us. 2012 - Skip forward a few years and Heather's planned a camping trip for Labor Day weekend- it was tons of fun and Dan and I reconnected while hiking and playing Dominion with friends. At the conclusion of our trip he asked me for my number again and we went out for lunch, but that was all for the time being. 2016 - Flash forward four years and Dan has moved back from Oregon, Heather finds this out and invites him over to play test a card game he's been developing. I was also invited over, but under the pretense of just playing games with Heather, Chris, and Jess- little did I know I'd be seeing Dan again! After that first bumbling game night we saw each other a couple weeks later at the beach day Heather planned and chatted more easily while playing Pokemon Go together. We had both independently started trying online dating and were a 98% match! Within 5 minutes of my profile going live on Monday, Dan messaged me wishing me luck on the site and we played some online Dominion, by Wednesday morning he asked me if I would go out with him, and our first date was that Friday!
Dan proposed on Memorial Day at the conclusion of a romantic picnic date in Yorba Regional Park, a throwback to one of our first dates. He had me stand on our picnic blanket and moved to one knee, asking me if I would marry him- and of course I said, "YES!"
"The act of one wanting/supporting two individuals involved in a romantic relationship... It generally uses the initials of the characters shipped or a combination of the names, though this is not a rule." - Urban Dictionary So, when Dan and I started dating in September of 2016 it was revealed to us that Heather "shipped" us- meaning she thought we were perfect for each other and just wanted us to be in a relationship already! So of course we started joking about what our "ship" name could be and Jess suggested the combination of our nicknames, "Dan" and "Adee" into the cutesy play on words, "Dandee". Dictionary.com defines "dandy" in its informal adjective use as, "fine; excellent; first-rate", and we certainly hope that's what our big day will be!
