Our story began the first day of our freshman year at the University of Iowa. We lived just a few doors apart on the same floor of our dorm. From Day 1 we were friends and grew to be best friends over the course of those four years. After graduating, Cal joined the Army as a commissioned officer, while Dani moved to China for a year to conduct science education research on a Fulbright award. Even while apart, the two of us grew closer. By the time Dani returned to the U.S. and Cal started Airborne school, we were calling each other every day. We watched shows and movies together over video call by hitting "play" at the same time. Or we just to talked about what we did that day, or plans for the future. Eventually, our friendship bloomed into something more. It became clear that the only way forward was together, and that's the way we've been ever since.
