Nigel's version lol: I've always said that our story is funny in the fact that we were not on each others radar at first. However, what's meant to be will always find a way! The NBS ski summit was my first time out to Colorado and I was new to the whole skiing thing. Dani lived here all her life and had been on the mountain with her family since she was a kid. Who would have known our paths would cross. I remember seeing her at the Ski Summit's Welcome Party in Aspen, "Vibrant and full of energy". It was funny because back then, I told myself that although she was definitely my type, she and her friend, may have been a little too "Vibrant" for my taste at that time. Granted, she was having a ball; and rightfully so. But at the advice of Senior leadership, I paused my interest until I could gauge her a bit more. It was something about her that I couldn't take my eyes off though. She was beautiful and full of life and I wanted to know more! I had to know more! The next day, my friends and I attended the happy hour at a bar in Aspen called "Mix6". My friends were the DJ's for the event and our club sponsored the event. After being there and scoping out the scene a bit, there she was! However this time, she almost seemed to float as she made her way around the room. It was crazy and No, I hadn't experienced this the previous day. She was mesmerizing! Not to say that she wasn't beautiful the day before, but it was something more regal that night. And just like that she was coming my way! Instantly my nerves kicked in, however this was my chance and I couldn't let the opportunity pass me by. As she walked within striking range I did it! Although nervous but confident in my objective, I spoke to her. "I was hoping you would pass by...". She looked back, eyes wide and batting her long lashes and she gave a slight smirk of approval and the rest is history! Charlotte can tell the rest of the that story lol. After we connected I told my Best friend Cue, "Dude, I think I found the one!"
Dani's version: So, how did we meet? It was Feb 6, 2022, during the second evening of the NBS Summit. I was dancing, partying, and having fun with my girl Tam. She was holding my hand, leading me through a crowded dance floor toward the bar. As I walked through the crowd, I heard, "I was hoping you would walk past me". I turned back and saw a beautiful smile with the cutest dimples, that instantly caught my attention. His smile brightened the room. I thought to myself, "Okay, he's cute" lol. I smiled back, and kept moving towards the bar. I got my drink and walked to meet my family on the other side of the restaurant. We were talking and he walked over and introduced himself. We made small talk and eventually exchanged numbers. Simple conversation turned into dancing, laughing, and talking all night; it felt like I had known him for years in a matter of hours. Something felt different, but little did I know, this was the beginning of our forever. From the Summit started our long distance love story, spanning across cities, states, even countries - full of frequent flyer miles, video chats, and unforgettable memories. We made trips back and forth to see one another, I fell in love with New Orleans, attending my first Mardi Gras, and he fell in love with the beauty of Colorado, learning how to ski on a couples trip to Winter Park the following month. We traveled to Cabo on our first international trip, attended our first wedding together in New Jersey, I experienced my first Jazz Festival and Essence Festival, went on a swamp tour and got up and close with alligators, enjoyed my first crawfish boil, and so many more adventures. Long distance was not always easy, but with every goodbye and every reunion, we learned how to choose each other, over and over again. The miles between us created the foundation for forever. Later that year we stepped into an even more challenging, yet rewarding adventure, "bonus parents", as we began building our own beautiful, blended family. Our families on both sides welcomed us with open arms, love, and support. In 2023, we took a leap of faith and started our catering company Nola Eats. The same year, on Thanksgiving, we made the most important decision of all, to spend forever together. We continued traveling on a long distance roller coaster until Jan 2025, when we finally closed the distance. Nigel decided to trade in his Saints for the Broncos lol just kidding, and became a Denver transplant. Now, after a 5 year journey of ups, downs, challenges, successes, tears, laughs, an undeniable love and unwavering commitment, our special day is fast approaching, October 25, 2026. We are beyond excited and grateful to get to celebrate the start of this new chapter with all of you! Thank you for your continued support, encouragement, and love over the years! 💗
