Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Danielle Agress and Roderick McRae
There are so many worthwhile activities to do in the Cancún area. Some of our suggestions are below. *Note that Cancún has been experiencing high volumes of sargassum grass in recent years. While typically less of an issue in the winter months, it is still possible there may be some present impacting ability to enjoy the beach.

Town of Puerto Morelos

Puerto Morelos, Q.R., Mexico

Explore the town of Puerto Morelos! Free street parking and a walkable town with shops/restaurants/bars, and a public beach. In the evening, many bars on Javier Rojo Gomez have live music and the street becomes pedestrian-only. Check out our favorite counter-food spot, Empanadas Ruta 40! Danielle recommends the spinach empanada, and Rod recommends the four cheese (with the lamb being a close second).

Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres, Q.R., Mexico

Isla Mujeres is a small, charming island near Cancun known for its turquoise waters, white-sand beaches, relaxed vibe, and vibrant coral reefs, offering activities such as snorkeling, diving, swimming with whale sharks (seasonal), and exploring Mayan history at Punta Sur, with golf carts being the popular way to get around its colorful streets. Isla Mujeres is only accessible via ferry. We recommend this as a day trip excursion!

Chichén-Itzá

Chichén-Itzá, Yuc. 97751, Mexico

Chichen Itza is a renowned Mayan archaeological site on Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, known for its impressive architecture like the Temple of Kukulcan (El Castillo), which features 365 steps and serpent shadows during equinoxes. There are many tours available from Cancun to Chichen Itza that include shuttle transportation. Alternatively, it is possible to drive there in a rental car. The journey is about 2-2.5 hours each way.

Cirque du Soleil | Vidanta Riviera Maya

Km 48 Cancun - Chetumal, Playa del Carmen, Q.R. 77710, Mexico

Danielle can't miss an opportunity to recommend Cirque Du Soleil :) This show, Joya, is performed over a seated, three-course dinner.

Snorkeling Excursion

There are many snorkeling tours available in the area. We recommend spending a day in the ocean and seeing some of the amazing marine life!

Boat Tour

There are many boat tours available in the area. It is a fun way to tour the area via water and spend a day in the sun!

Blue Cenote

Q.R. 77734, Mexico

Cenotes near Cancun are natural freshwater sinkholes or caves, formed by collapsed limestone revealing crystal-clear, cool water from underground river systems, sacred to the ancient Mayans as sources of life and gateways to the underworld. Visitors can swim, snorkel, and dive in these pools, which range from open-air lagoons to deep, cave-like caverns filled with stunning stalactites, stalagmites, and unique shades of blue, offering mystical beauty and adventure in the Yucatán's jungle. There are many tours available to cenotes, or it is also possible to drive there in a rental car.

Zip Lining/ATV Excursions

For our adventurous guests, there are ziplining and ATV excursions available in the area. Danielle loves ziplining and highly recommends, and Rod loves driving the ATV while Danielle holds on for dear life :)

Tulum

Tulum, Q.R., Mexico

Tulum is a stunning coastal town in Mexico's Riviera Maya, famous for its dramatic clifftop Mayan ruins overlooking turquoise Caribbean waters, white-sand beaches, and lush jungle. Once a vital Mayan trading port, it's now a popular, bohemian destination known for eco-friendly resorts, cenotes, spiritual vibes, and a vibrant mix of history and trendy tourism, with distinct areas like the beach zone and the main town (El Centro). Neither Danielle or Rod has been, but our friends tell us it is amazing!
