We recommend planning your travels and accommodations early as the month of April is still a high demand seasonal time for Southwest Florida! If you are looking to be near the beach, you'll want to go for North Fort Myers (Estero Island) for hotels and house rentals, which will be about 30-40 minutes from the Heitman House.  If you want the downtown vibe there are some great options for that too!
