We met in school as teenagers and have been together since. It all started with Danette kicking Steven in the shins and Steven teasing Danette and telling her that she had her own gravitational pull *insert Peter from Family Guy reference here lol*. Fast forward to many years later, Danette unknowingly planned her own proposal (with the help of the bestie who was in on it for apparently a whole year prior). The proposal happened on October 9th, 2023 during the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, about 3,000ft above ground in a hot air balloon. Fun Fact: Steven almost missed his hint to propose because the flyer of the balloon had to repeat that they had reached max ascension and were 3,000ft in the air twice. Fun Fact #2: Danette and Sandra thought it was a great idea to go hiking the day before the proposal. Did they prep for the hike at all? lol, no. At the beginning of the trail, there were signs to beware of bears and cougars and to not carry food for those reasons. Despite the warnings they continued on the hike to end up getting lost about 20 minutes into the hike before eventually finding their way. The whole group thought they were halfway up until they saw a sign that said “1 mile”. With only 1 water bottle left they said fuck that and went back down. (Note: this hike was supposed to be 11miles in total which would have taken about 5.5hrs) They all later decided to just take the sky tram to get to the top instead of hiking up. Fun Fact #3: After the whole hiking ordeal, Danette got altitude sickness and kept throwing up after getting back down from the mountain. The whole group got concerned she would end up cancelling her proposal because it was the very next day. They bought her meds and pedialyte and hoped for the best.
