Dane had been living without in-unit laundry or regular access to a jacuzzi for some time. His searches in his Brentwood neighborhood were fruitless, so he expanded his search radius to 3 miles or less. A short while later, his thumbs happened upon a blonde not far away in Santa Monica. Dane recognized the Four Seasons in the background of one of her pictures and thought to himself - "this is my chance." Meanwhile not far in a 1-bedroom apartment in Santa Monica, Victoria was returning home from class and her phone buzzed, a new match. She opened her phone and it was the handsome frat guy from Brentwood, with the pictures of the super cute golden retriever. "Interesting" she thought as she tried to think of something to break the ice. Later that week, an Uber drops Victoria off in front of Tavern, a notable but overrated restaurant in Brentwood, to “meet this guy.” But the restaurant is closed and dark; unexpected renovations? And as for her date? He’s nowhere to be found. She paced out front for what felt like more than 5 minutes, unsure what to do next. Just as she was about to give up and accept that she'd been ghosted, a tall man dressed in a white untucked button down made his way up the hill towards Tavern. Fast forward five years, plus a few cats and a new apartment, Dane is on one knee in deep powdery Montana snow, atop the frozen Gallatin River, waiting for Victoria to turn around. His gloveless hand outstretched, holding an open ring box, and shaking, from cold or nerves - or maybe a bit of both? After a week of newly engaged bliss on the slopes, they returned home to LA -- ready to get hitched, but instead hunkered down for 5, 6, wait, 12 (!!!) months now and counting. Dane with his Dodgers World Series win, Victoria with sparkly new carats on her left hand, and can’t forget the cats, plus a new kitten, I guess some parts of 2020 weren’t so bad after all.
