Like lots of other couples these days, we met online! We'll let you guess who sent the first message ;)
Per the recommendation of Dane's good friend Søren, our first date was at McClellan's Retreat in Dupont Circle. We closed the bar on a Wednesday night, saw each other again that weekend, and we've hung out almost every day since!
We rented a house on the Shenandoah River in March 2021 and got engaged by the river under the starlight! While basking in the happiness of our new engagement, a big ol' beaver waddled out of the river and settled down right next to us. We are pleased to report that in animal symbolism, "a beaver spirit offers new horizons and hope, particularly with regard to your family and home." Phew!
Woodend combines two of our favorite things - nature and history! It's home to the Audubon Naturalist Society (Kim attended "home school field school" at the Mass Audubon Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary as a kid) and the house itself was designed by John Russell Pope, who also designed the Jefferson Memorial (Dane was a history major and remains a huge history buff).
