Our Wedding Video. Captured by the incredible Moondance Films!
We met on a warm October night in 2017. Our first date was a bike ride that became a spontaneous all-night tour where we introduced each other to our most precious places. The evening began at Greenwich House Pottery, where Susie first discovered her love for ceramics. We then pedaled to a park on the Hudson where sparks started to fly and a first kiss may or may not have been shared. Not wanting the evening to end, we opted to enjoy two steaming bowls of ramen (a risky choice for a first date meal) and catch a comedy show at the Magnet Theater, where Dan regularly made a fool of himself onstage. Despite the late hour, we continued our tour and arrived at our final stop, the 6th & B Community Garden where Susie maintained a plot and had a highly coveted key. Over citronella candles and music played from our phones, we chatted into the wee hours of the night. As we went our separate ways, we both felt like we had known each other for years. Dan rode the 10 miles home with a giddy smile on his face, and Susie immediately called her bestie saying she may have found the one. Our early relationship was filled with concerts, art projects, and new holiday traditions. After two years of being long distance (Susie living down in the East Village and Dan in Harlem), we decided to find a place together. We eventually settled in our quirky, cozy, New Orleans-inspired apartment on Sackett Street in Carrol Gardens, Brooklyn. It was here our relationship grew and flourished. It was also here that we weathered the doldrums of lock down and the pandemic. But it was during those tough times that our love was tested and ultimately came out stronger. On the second night of an unforgettable and much needed trip to Belize in September 2021, Dan, accompanied by Susie's ride-or-die, Olivia, and her partner Moheet, popped the big question. After the initial shock passed, Susie replied with a tearful “of course,” and the rest of the trip felt like a Honeymoon. As we began to consider our future together, two things became clear: We wanted to be closer to loved ones, and the 600 square feet we shared was vastly insufficient. So we packed up Carl the Car and made the long drive west to Detroit for the last time. With the help and incredible support of our family plus a crucial assist from the Jewish Mom’s Network, we settled into our perfect home in Ye Ole’ Farming Town. With all the extra space, it did not take long for our little family to grow. Our fluffy son Giuseppe hopped into our lives this year, and we couldn’t be happier. So, we’ve certainly come a long way since those days of pedaling through the streets of New York. We are beyond excited and truly grateful that you can be a part of this next milestone.
