Travel Note
You can drive directly to the Sanctuary and staff will direct you as to where to park. There may be a short walk from the parking spot they direct you to, so please plan accordingly and aim on arriving early. Roosevelt Island Parking Garage information can be found here: https://rioc.ny.gov/299/Driving Visitor parking is available at the Motorgate parking garage and metered short-term parking is available on Main Street. Motorgate is the central parking facility on the Island. It is open 24 hours a day and accessible via the first right hand turn after coming across the Roosevelt Island Bridge. The garage is managed by SP+ Corporation and can be found at: 688 Main Street Roosevelt Island, NY 10044 Phone: 212-832-4585 It is about a 10 minute walk from the garage to The Sanctuary. For those wearing heels, consider arriving by Uber to save your feet for dancing.
Hotel
If you plan to stay overnight in NYC, there is only one hotel on Roosevelt Island-The Graduate. Of course there are many options in and around the city to choose from with a short commute to the wedding venue on the island. We have discounted rooms blocked at the Graduate Hotel. If you choose to use them, click the link below which will bring up options and booking for the rooms we reserved. You must do this through the link to get the discount. If they fill up, I can request more rooms but there is no guarantee the discount will be the same. Please reach out if you have any questions. Love to all, Carolyn and Dave https://www.graduatehotels.com/roosevelt-island/#/booking/step-1?group=202305SMDB
Train
We just discovered that the F-train subway will not be running all Memorial Day Weekend on the Queens bound route from Manhattan (for those visiting, welcome to New York!). This means you will not be able to catch the subway from Manhattan to the island on the wedding day. We believe you can still catch the subway if you're coming from the Queens side. You can still catch the Ferry, the cable car or an Uber to get to the venue!! Good luck and please plan accordingly.
Train
If you're coming from another state don't overlook commuter rail services such as the Metro North that arrives at Grand Central.
Travel Note
If driving is preferable or more convenient for you, please allow yourself an extra hour to get to Roosevelt Island. Traffic in New York can be unpredictable and cause unexpected delays.
Travel Note
If you’re arriving at one of NYC’s airports (JFK, LGA, or EWR), there are a number of options for getting to The Sanctuary. NYC Yellow Cabs, Uber, and Lyft are all available from each airport. If you’re arriving at JFK, you have the option to take the AirTrain to the NYC Subway.
Train
The Roosevelt Island Tramway provides the most modern aerial tramway in the world, running every 7-15 minutes from 59th Street and Second Avenue in Manhattan to Tramway Plaza on Roosevelt Island. Please note that the passengers must exit the tram at each stop (either Manhattan bound or Roosevelt Island bound) and pay again to return to the other side. The Sanctuary is about an 18 minute walk from the tramway.
Travel Note
Uber, Lyft and Taxis are one of the best ways to get around New York City. There's a lot available so we don't anticipate any trouble using one to get to the event. It may be more difficult to get an Uber / lyft / taxi after the event (its harder to get Ubers to pick you up from Roosevelt Island than to drop you off there) and you may have to wait some 15-30 minutes. Please take this into account when planning. If you can take the subway home, we recommend it.
