Question

When and where is the wedding?

Answer

Our ceremony will be a small and intimate affair, convening only immediate families and wedding parties. Ceremony guests will be welcome to gather at Dolly’s around 6PM. We’ll be tying the knot around 7PM, followed by a champagne toast (all speeches, dances, etc. will take place at the reception). Most guests will gather at Merv’s sometime before 8PM, with the official reception (“the fun part”) taking place at Merv’s from 8PM-Midnight, and the “after-party” (open doors) rolling until the bar closes. Come and go as early as you please, stay as late as you like. Merv’s should be open for business leading up to the event, and if we were guests at this wedding, we might post up there for a bite around 4-5 and hang out for a few hours. Just a thought for early arrivals. Either way, we’ll meet you at Merv’s at 8PM!

Question

Behind the Scenes: Ceremony Venue

Answer

Dolly and Vylette are top tier Brooklyn performers (and beyond) and dear friends. As hosts of the world-class semiannual show High Concepts, they’ve had Kat on their stage multiple times as Marie Dragdeline — each production is better than the last. And it’s not just one of our favorite shows in town. It’s one of our favorite venues! Our ceremony will borrow the stage from High Concepts for the evening, taking place in Dolly and Vylette’s enchanting back yard, which has been hand crafted into an outdoor theater teeming with Brooklyn vibes. One look at the audience and stage at the last High Concepts, we knew this was where we wanted to say “I do.”

Question

Behind the Scenes: Reception Venue

Answer

Merv’s has had many faces and many names since we shared our first kiss at its bar, but it’s always had one soul. That soul embodies everything we love about Brooklyn — the community, the creativity, the characters. And it kept us coming back after that first kiss for all those reasons and more. For a long stretch we showed up at karaoke every Thursday like a kind of church. The same people every week, each with different songs in their hearts and an endless appetite for the rest. It was no ordinary karaoke. It was Brooklyn. Some of the best talent we’ve heard, and some of the most unique. It was a celebration of the moment, an outlet for the week, and the most reliable date night a budding couple could ask for. Our karaoke nights are the stuff of legends, and so where better to host a legendary night? A big shout-out to the owner Michael, who rolled up his sleeves the moment we brought it up, and has dedicated his staff and kitchen to throwing the exact wedding of our dreams. P.S. Our names can be found, encircled in a heart, somewhere in the venue. First person to find it gets to… do a shot with us? There may be a prize. P.P.S. We’ll always remember where we had that magical first kiss. But odds are, you don’t know. Watch your step! There will be a mistletoe hanging over the fateful spot. :)

Question

Is there a dress code?

Answer

Apparently one of the most common FAQs. Dress as you would for a September wedding, with shoes you can easily dance in or kick off. This is a Brooklyn wedding, of course, so feel free to jazz it up some, within reason, if you’re feeling it. Black tie will be considered ironic.

Question

Any hotel recos?

Answer

The Travel page on the navigation menu will be updated with recommendations soon. Please check back or proceed with your preferred hotel. Optimal locations for public transit are Williamsburg (20 minutes to Merv’s) and Union Square (30 minutes to Merv’s).
