Jen was on a travel nursing contract at Kalispell Hospital in Montana, and Dan had his eye on the new girl. One day, right before change of shift, Jen was notified that she was getting an admission- a postop esophagectomy gone bad. "Great, so much for getting out of here on time," she thought. As she frantically prepared the room for the trainwreck to arrive, she was interupted by Dan's blunt demeanor. "Who are you?" Dan barked. He was transporting the patient, indeed a trainwreck, from the OR. Jen filled him in, "Uh, I'm Jen." Together they settled the patient and exchanged some small talk. Dan was very interested and patiently waited for his next run-in with Jen. A week or so passed and Dan asked Laurie, one of the staff ICU nurses who knows everything going on in the unit, about the new girl. Laurie informed him that Jen had mentioned wanting to go fly fishing. "Laurie! Did you tell her I'd take her?!" Dan exclaimed. As an avid fisherman, he recognized this as the perfect opportunity. Laurie facilitated a number exchange and Dan called Jen to set up a fishing date. They didn't catch a single thing that day, but they were both hooked.
