So sometimes we all make a decision that leads us down a road we never thought we'd go on. And yes, it makes all the difference. Neither Irish nor Dan were going to join Temple's SMC Living Learning Community (all that matters here is that it was a very cool co-ed dorm floor full of media majors). They both did it on a random whim way after the final sign-up due date. Obviously, they both got in. Now, in the first couple weeks Dan met Marley who met Emma who was Irish's roommate. On one random day, Emma invited Irish to go to lunch with the three of them, like the friendly person she is. Initially, Irish said no but after finally deciding to cut her anti-social crap off, she decided to join them. Those small decisions led to us and the rest is history!
So at Temple, signing up for classes can be like fighting off vultures. At 7:00 am sharp on your assigned day, you immediately have to jump on, throw your classes in and hope that somehow you made it in. When signing up for the second semester freshman year, Irish decided the best course of action was too just not sleep to be ready for sure (nobody ever said she was great at planning). She invited the rest of the other 3 to join and while the two smarter girls declined, Dan agreed. He later admitted he couldn't think of an excuse not to but that's not as cute. Anyway, overnight they talk, get closer, Dan eventually falls asleep because he cannot stay up to save his life, and they signed up for classes that morning. Later the next evening, girl let boy know she liked him. Boy liked girl. Boy and girl start dating on the 11th of the 11th month of 2015!
Now, we're not gonna admit that Dan isn't good at surprises or anything, but Dan isn't good at surprises. Leading up to April 11th, Dan was acting...suspicious. He was very adamant about Irish getting her nails done, randomly didn't pick up his phone for a good 30 minutes while "in a waiting room for a haircut" because he was "people watching" not even five minutes from Irish's parents home, he was determined to go to a nice dinner out of nowhere, amongst other things. Irish was seemingly on to him. So the day in question, Dan picked up Irish early from her class, they got ready, and they left for a fancy restaurant by Penn's Landing in Philadelphia. So they eat a good meal and leave for the night. The next thing Dan wanted to do was take a picture on an overlook where you could see the Ben Franklin bridge all lit up nice and pretty. Keep in mind now, Irish is in a dress, it's nighttime, we're on the water, and it.is.COLD. It was at that moment that Irish forgot any previous hint at the proposal and just wanted to leave. Oh, she begged and she pleaded to leave but Dan was not having it. He was getting his picture. So they finally get to the overlook and Irish sees a photographer also up there. This is a popular tourist attraction in Philly, not surprising that they would be up here, so she asks Dan to grab them so we can just get the picture out of the way and get going. IT IS COLD. No, Dan wants a picture of Irish dramatically looking at the bridge. Okay, this should've been a huge hint, admittedly, but okay. So Irish turns towards the bridge when she hears him. "Irish Rose." She turns. Dan is down on one knee, ring out. "Will you marry me?" Yes, Irish almost cried. To Irish's surprise, the photographer then ran towards them. It was their very talented friend, Geneva, who caught the entire moment!
