Go hiking on Vermont’s highest peak! Recommended trails for hiking are the Long Trail, 0.4 miles north of Stowe Mountain Resort on Rt. 108 and/or the Haselton Trail whose entrance is just alongside Midway Lodge near the gondola base. If a grueling hike isn’t really your thing, you can drive your car up the Toll Road nearly to the summit for $20.
Rent a canoe, kayak, or paddleboard and go explore this big beautiful reservoir, surrounded by some of the highest mountains in VT! This is a state park and you can park your car and stay for the day for $5. They also have a nice swimming area and little beach spot.
The quickest way to the top of the ski hill! Almost as fun in summer as in winter, the gondola is a must-do when in Stowe and has been around almost as long as Dan’s dad! On a nice day, it can’t really be beat.
Used by smugglers in the 1700s and still to this day to get Cuban cigars and bagels back from Montreal! You can drive up this super narrow, twisty, and steep road and there are a few hikes (e.g. Sterling Pond) from the top. Check out the thousand foot cliffs on either side of you!
Part of New England’s longest rail trail, the LVRT starts in Morristown just 10 miles north of Stowe off Rt. 100 and continues for 17 miles west to Cambridge. You can rent bikes near the trailhead. There are a couple great breweries just off the trail too — check out Lost Nation.
Stowe Rec path is a nice place to walk or ride a bike around Stowe.
