How We Met

Once upon a Starbucks...

Her Version: So there I was... working as a slave in Grove Street Starbucks. As a barista in an urban Starbucks location, you can't help but meet a wide array of characters. Being so close to the financial center, we would always have customers wearing button downs and suits eager to get their skinny lattes or cappuccinos. The first time I met Dana wasn't so much about him... but his male coworker who was always loud and obnoxious. Both he and his coworker would come by a little after lunch for their caffeine fix. Being a creature of habit, Dana would always get a "Tall Iced Coffee" or an occasional chocolate milk. Given the number of customers we have, I didn't think much of it till one day Dana comes running to the bar where I was making drinks. As I am struggling to produce all these lattes and sweating from the espresso machine steam, Dana leans over and asks, "Do you want to grab a drink with me?" [Long pause] The first thing I blurted out was, "I am underage." Little did he know that I wasn't 21 yet. His Version: So I was standing in Starbucks, chatting up another customer while I was waiting for my coffee to be made. Right as I ask the other customer "hey, do you want to go out for a drink sometime" I hear this voice behind me say "ummm, I'm not 21." I thought to myself "did the barista think I just asked her out? maybe I should run with this and act like I was actually talking to her..." Just kidding, I had a crush on Louissa for a couple months before I asked her out. Her story was spot on. Except for the chocolate milk... what am I, a child? :D

The Proposal

11.4.17

Louissa: There we were, an hour outside Seattle (well, three hours considering the traffic we dealt with), standing in a field of tulips as far as the eye can see. I could feel it! Sharing that amazing romantic moment... Dana was definitely going to propose! His lips moved, and out came the words "lets head back to Seattle." Was he kidding??? After that day I was almost certain we weren't getting married. Fast forward: It was our second day in Oahu and our itinerary involved swimming with 12' Galapagos sharks in the morning before heading to Dana's favorite beach on the other side of the island. I know... not your typical relaxing beach vacation. After pretending to be shark bait, we finally embarked for the beach. After finally parking, Dana went to the trunk of the car where he started fumbling with some bags - I remember saying, "We are going to the beach, Why do you need your backpack? Lets go already!" Finally we reached the beach. Excited at how beautiful the beach was, I ran to soak my feet in the clear turquoise water after dropping off my towel on the sand. As I am looking out into the horizon... Dana, now standing next to me turns and says "You know you're my best friend, right?" I remember thinking, "WTF is he talking about?!?" Next thing I knew he was down on one knee (waves crashing in to him as the tide began to rise), holding a ring in his out-stretched hand. Then I thought, "Oh s*%&#, if he drops that ring we will both have to swim for it." Oh yeah, then I said, "Yes!" Dana: I almost drowned waiting for her to say "yes," what took her so long???
