Ethan knew that he wanted to propose on his favorite hike at the Mount Tammany Red Dot Trail. With the ring in hand, the thought of proposing in a manner that would surprise Dana was daunting. When Dana's plans for the weekend fell through, she suggested going on a hike. As the clear planner of the relationship, it felt right that Dana was the one to unintentionally plan her own engagement. The day of the hike arrived, and Ethan was surprisingly calm, short of a few dad jokes. As soon as the hike began, Dana, cooped up in the bedroom office for months of actuarial exam studying, decides to book it up the mountain as the first "I'm outdoors" of the summer season. After making it most of the hike without stopping, Ethan is noticeably panting in anticipation of the proposal. Dana, surprised by Ethan’s fatigue, believes he is just hungry. After Ethan refuses Dana's snack offerings, which is highly out of character, they continue up the mountain. Upon reaching the intended proposal location near the summit, Ethan suggests taking a short rest. In actuality, this moment turned rather lengthy, as Ethan was waiting for the area to clear. Dana, eager to continue with the hike, did not understand the reason for the stoppage. Once finally alone, Ethan suggests carrying on. In the short time that Ethan reached for the ring out of his backpack, Dana was already strides away - antsy to continue. Ethan shouts, "Dane!" She turns around and is completely shocked to see Ethan on one knee. Dana's face: priceless.
