Joel and Dana actually met in high school back in 1999. It was Dana’s freshman year and Joel’s senior year. They were both in band, Joel playing trumpet and Dana in colorguard; however, they didnt have very many interactions then. November 2016, they reconnected on facebook. In July 2018, Joel requested a game of Words With Friends with Dana. Dana continued to clobber Joel game after game (current stats: Dana with 67 wins to Joel’s 13 wins) when Joel sent a message asking for mercy. The messages continued for a couple of months when snapchat handles were swapped. When Dana went to Alaska at the beginning of September, she sent him snaps and messages updating him of her trip and realized that there could be something more to the friendship. When she returned home, phone numbers were exchanged and the conversations were constant and flowed easily. They realized that they had a lot in common, a freakish amount in common. Later in September, Dana had plans change and a trip canceled, so they made arrangements for Joel to come to town. Dana cooked (quickest way to the heart is the stomach) and the rest is history... Even Dana’s cooking as Joel has pretty much cooked since.
We wish we could remember the exact conversation that was had to put us on the path to where we are now, but we really can't. Like every relationship, the conversation of what we wanted in life happened. Did we want to get married? Big wedding? Small wedding? Did we want kids? How many kids? 5 year plans? 10 year plans? We're just two adults who made the decision to spend the rest of their life together and we did it in a way that worked best for two very impatient people, who love each other, and lived 2 hours apart.
