For a short Saturday morning hike, the Giant’s Stairs on Bailey Island is a lovely option: It's hard to beat the dramatic coastal scenery in Harpswell. Named for its interesting geologic history, the Giant’s Stairs trail follows the rocky coastline with gorgeous views of eastern Casco Bay, often with crashing waves glinting in the sunlight. On any given day you might see rafts of ducks, foraging harbor seals or a lobster boat hauling traps below your feet. We love Portland, and if you have an extra day or two to explore, we'd recommend checking out some of our favorite spots: Belleflower Brewing - our favorite craft brewery; make it a full brewery tour and check out Lone Pine, Rising Tide, Austin Street, and more. Exchange Street/Old Port - explore fun shopping, restaurants and bars. Try Blyth & Burrows for some great, elevated cocktails. Eastern Prom - stunning views of the harbor and islands; take a walk, grab a bite from a food truck, and watch the boats go by (plus, the site of Hallie & Dan's first date!) Portland Museum of Art - the PMA offers a wonderful permanent collection and rotating exhibitions.
Dan lived in Brunswick/Topsham for four years, and Hallie joined him there for about one. Here are some of our favorite things to do: Flight Deck Brewery - good beer, great pizza, perfect atmosphere on a summer evening. Dutchman's - possibly the best bagels in Maine! Get there early and be prepared to wait in line. Dog Bar Jim - coffee and pastries in a unique place with a super friendly owner/barista Reverie Coffee House - great coffee shop on Maine Street, grab a coffee and take a stroll through town. Bowdoin College Museum of Art - Bowdoin's campus is lovely to take a walk through, and their art museum is free and always worth a visit.
For those visiting Maine for the first time, Acadia might be on your list. About 2.5 hours up the coast from Brunswick, find the stunning blend of rugged coastline, granite peaks, and peaceful forests that captures the essence of Maine’s natural beauty.
