Love constantly eluded my grasp. Every time I thought I had a firm grip, I ended up facing that blank canvas of “starting over'' yet again. With such a big heart and all the love in the world to give, but with no one to give it to; I considered that the worst feeling anyone could ever experience. I would always say to my mother, maybe God requires me to wait for the moment where love no longer evades me, but embraces me in such a way that no other feeling could overturn it. It wasn't until the tragic loss of my brother to not only be given the opportunity of a lifetime, but be able to mend a broken heart. In the midst of a not so joyful day, I met the woman of my dreams, Alexis Hubbard. I practically ran to her mother to see if she was spoken for and to my surprise she was as single as I was. I looked at my mother and said, “I'm going to marry that lady, Jack” LOL. That day God not only brought our families together, he gave me my purpose; he gave me my reason to live and love again. It’s funny how all my heart's desires were given to me, and it all started with a message. God knew exactly what he was doing that day, and I thank Him everyday for such a blessing.

Imagine being a five year old girl with the most innocent and obviously not allowed crush on a ten year old close friend of the family. Fast forward nineteen years, on a day that still strikes us as a very sad and traumatic day for both families, we crossed paths again; this time as a twenty-four year old girl who is now old enough to have all the crushes she wants. Who knew that on such a sad day, the beginning to my forever was being written. Through God, fate, and my match-making mother, I began texting with Damond that day and have not gone a day since without talking to him. Damond is smart, loving, family-oriented, motivated, God-fearing, and so much more. He is beyond anything I could ever ask God for in a man and when I least expected it, he became the answer to my prayers.

Our story starts with our two, soon- to- be (wink wink), love birds preparing to reunite once again after a treacherous battle with long distance. Black Shadow (Damond) has been away on a secret mission that would bring world peace, while WonderLady (Alexis) has flown around the world in one day and has saved every child on this planet. For the entirety of their relationship, Damond was stationed at Ft Sill, Oklahoma Army Base. Coming home as often as he could, Alexis would visit him in Oklahoma whenever their schedules allowed. Damond flew home in March for Alexis and his mom’s birthdays. In turn, Alexis decided to fly to Oklahoma for Damond’s birthday in April. Little did she know, this short four night trip would change everything for the better for the rest of their lives. Alexis, her mother Felicia, & her future Mother-in-love, Tamara, packed up their bags and hit the road for Oklahoma. Alexis had been anticipating being proposed to with Damond teasing & dropping hints over the past 6 months . Every time she thought it would happen, it didn’t, so she decided to stop anticipating and let love take its course. Damond spent all day contemplating what to say to Alexis to explain that she was the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with. Thinking of all the times Alexis would say, “Damond is never going to ask me to marry him”; He thought, well look who’s proving you wrong today Lady. Damond could not fathom the joy he felt on the day he would propose. Damond remembered Alexis saying “if you propose to me, please don’t do it on the last day of any of our visits, I would hate if we got engaged and I had to leave you the next day”. Sunday, April 30th, It’s Damond’s birthday, and also the last day of the trip. Remembering what she asked, Alexis was sure they wouldn’t be getting engaged on this visit. Alexis and her mom woke up early to go grab birthday decorations & a cake to surprise Damond at the hotel. Damond woke that morning to pray and try to contain his excitement. Not only was he taking a leap of faith, but he was overjoyed that he would be taking a leap with Alexis. He chose a special place to take his "bride to be", the top of his favorite mountain. To him, this mountain symbolized “you and I against the world", and he's always felt like he's on top of the world when he's with Alexis. Although she wanted the day to be all about him; she had no idea that his birthday, would become her favorite day for more reasons than one. Everyone got dressed and Damond guided them to the highest peak in Oklahoma, Mount Scott. Alexis thought they were out for a short hike. The view and the lighting was so beautiful; everyone decided to take photos and bask in nature's beauty. Damond being adventours, took Alexis to climb on the rocks to get some photos. His heart was racing and palms sweating, he could barely handle the ring. After a few deep breaths, he made his way toward the rock that would be a national landmark in the years to come. The entire time, Felicia and Tamara were recording and Alexis was completely unaware. After one last photo, he knew "this was the moment!". Damond got down on one knee, he sweetly kissed Alexis’ hands and tells her that she has made him the happiest man in the world, that he would spend the rest of his life making sure she has that same happiness, and asks her to spend the rest of their lives together. Through her tears, Alexis answers YES! The cheers, hoorays, and thank you Jesus’ of the moms could be heard aloud. Though it took some planning and sneaking to get there, this day for the both of them would go down as one of the best days of their entire lives . Because of this day, we will now get to celebrate together a marriage ordained by God and filled with love, trust, happiness, and unspeakable joy.
