Our high school marching band grouped woodwinds and brass together on bus rides for travel competitions. We both had a mutual love for an online, multiplayer game called World of Warcraft. Damon wore a black World of Warcraft hat every day in high school, which lured Reed to talk to him.

Damon's family traveled to Virginia Beach every summer to spend time together. Damon chose to propose to Reed the first time she joined the family vacation. Damon had secretly asked Reed's parents for their blessing prior to her arrival. He had the ring, a beautiful family heirloom, protected by his brother, Daniel, on the vacation to ensure she did not stumble across it. He had an elaborate plan to write out the proposal in the sand. He wanted to romantically propose with the sun rising and the waves crashing in the background. Reed's whole family knew the plan and continued checking in with her on the vacation, anticipating the joyous news. There was one major flaw though: Reed liked to sleep in on vacation. As the days passed, Damon still wanted to propose and had to redraft his plan. He eventually chose the courtyard of the Bruton Parish Church, a National Historic Landmark located in Colonial Williamsburg. This is the church which some of the founding fathers attended. He knew this was a place we could always visit on our yearly vacation and show to our family later. Thus, he took Reed in the afternoon, an ideal time during vacation, and asked her to marry him. To which everyone already knew the answer... She said yes.
