Airports

US Guests: There are two international hubs in Ireland, Shannon (SNN) and Dublin (DUB). Both are about a three hour drive from Sligo. UK/EU Guests: In addition to SNN and DUB there is a regional airport in Knock (NOC) that is less than an an hour from Sligo. This airport mainly serves the UK and Spain with limited other European destinations.

Public Transport

From Dublin: Sligo is served by both Bus and Train service from Dublin. Bus Éireann offers a commuter service on route 23 directly from the airport. Iarnród Éireann/Irish Rail offers a commuter service from Dublin Connolly Station. (This station is not in proximity to DUB airport, a bus/taxi connection would be necessary) From Shannon: Sligo is served indirectly by Bus connecting via Galway. (The existing rail network does not offer efficient service to Sligo.) Bus Éireann offers a commuter service route on 51, and a direct service on route X51 from SNN airport to Galway. Transfer in Galway to the commuter service on route 64 running from Galway to Sligo.

Rental Vehicles

All vehicles drive on the left side of the road in Ireland. It is typical for most vehicles to have a manual transmission (stick shift), if you require an automatic vehicle ensure you specifically select this option with your rental company. Vehicle Rental Insurance: If you have vehicle rental insurance coverage through your credit card. Please ensure you bring proof of this insurance with you while travelling. Rental car companies in Ireland will require you to present evidence that this insurance provides coverage in Ireland. (If you are unable to provide evidence of this coverage the rental car company will require that you to purchase insurance directly from them by policy. This can often be more expensive than the original rental rate.) Proof of coverage can typically be obtained from your credit card company in advance of your intended travel.
