How We Met

“Bro, where were you?”

Summer of 2019, I (Damaris), came back to KAA to serve as Programs Director at the Deuce. During staff training week, I was in grind mode getting ready for the summer and trying to make everyone feel welcome. The only thing I could remember about Reg was that he was tall Florida boy with a wrap around his leg. I did not have much of an opinion about him other than what other people had told me—he could dance. Because I would spend most of meals on stage running music and being MC, I did not pay attention to everyone that was dancing and getting hype. However, somehow I always caught Reg during ladies lunch cleaning-up and would have the same conversation about wanting to see him dance. Why was I so obsessed with seeing him dance? I dont know lol. A couple weeks later after having the same “bro where were you? I didn’t see you dancing?” “I was here the whole time.” interaction, I heard from some higher ups that he was doing the internship with KAA too. We had a small conversation about how excited we were about it and I did not see him until we moved to Branson. At the start of the internship, we had SO MUCH fun together. We went on adventures, made boomerangs, took pictures. and just enjoyed being friends. If we ever had down time in the office, we would have some pretty deep spiritual discussions. I enjoyed getting to just talk with him and being strictly friends. Then as the fall progressed, I started to get a vibe that he liked me. Long story short, I nipped in the butt and cut it off because I felt a strong urge from the Lord not to get involved with anything romantic as I was an intern. Turns out that he didn’t like me. Whoops! Fast forward to January of 2020, we attended a prayer and fasting event at a church in Branson. During that service, as I was praying I remember looking at Reginald. He was below praying to the Lord on his knees. For some reason, at that moment my heart began to soften and I realized he didnt really look the same to me. ;)
