“It was the socks…”

August 14, 2023

On the first night Dalton was working at Calvary Community Church accompanying the choir on piano, I fell in love at first sight. His red hair glimmered under the lights of the choir room. I wore the ugliest outfit that day too and I wish I looked nicer! Haha. But I also loved his high socks that had music notes on them. Literally, I knew this one was as quirky as me as soon as I saw them. Naturally, as Mylee does, I waited outside of the choir room after the meeting that night to try and catch him to talk. I figured the best segue into a conversation would be to ask if he could teach me how to play piano like he does because his chops are insane. He asked for my number… which no one has done to Mylee before! So I knew he had to be interested in me at least a little bit. After that… I wanted to set up a hang out for us because I really wanted to get to know him. I sent him a song I was working on of me playing the piano instrumentally out of the blue. He complimented it and I was so shocked because it had mistakes and everything! I asked him if he wanted to go to a boba place in Simi because he didn’t know any hot spots in town and told me I could show him around. I took him there and then to Coorganville and set up candles and a Coke Zero for him and a Arizona tea for me. He and I didn’t know it was a date, but he still has the bottle cap till this day because he said “It was the best date I had ever been on.” I’m so honored to have grown with him so much in our faith and character. I love him so much and I will always say that there was never a moment I didn’t love him from the very first sight of him wearing his high music note socks. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. 😊
