We met playing spike ball at Loose Park and it is now our backyard! We love going on runs around the park, playing sports in the open spaces, and ice skating on the pond in the winter. It contains a beautiful rose garden and informative civil war walking tour. A keen eye will notice Japanese flora, inspired by our sister city, Kurashiki, Japan.
The country club plaza opened in 1923 as the first shopping mall in the United States. It was designed with Spanish architecture to mimic Seville, Spain, but boasts more fountains. It's an outdoor shopping area that is pedestrian friendly.
Our Zoo spans 200 acres and contains more than 10,000 animals. The aquarium was just completed last year and really is worth a visit. We also have free-roaming kangaroos that were donated by the University of Missouri-Kansas City (the Roos).
Originally opened in 1914 as a functioning train station, Union Station is currently hosting the Titanic exhibit and is home to a planetarium, interactive science center, movie theater, and restaurants.
