Kelsey was a junior in college at Appalachian State, and Drew was beginning his second season of pro ball in Kannapolis, NC. Feeling hopeful (and brave), they each created Hinge profiles (aka dating app)—and by the grace of God, they found each other. After exchanging a few messages, Drew invited Kelsey to come to a game in Kannapolis, NC, where he was the starting pitcher. Kelsey brought her college roommate, Mandy (now Maid of Honor) to make sure Drew wasn't a crazy person. Well, thank goodness she did, because Drew was in fact crazy, Kelsey just didn't know to what extent just yet. In the weeks that followed, Kelsey and Drew FaceTimed constantly and made the most of Drew’s one day off each week, meeting at Badin Lake on Mondays during baseball season. On the Fourth of July in 2021, Drew rushed to Badin Lake after a game to catch fireworks with Kelsey and her friends. He missed the fireworks—but gained something even better. When Kelsey mentioned they weren’t official yet, Drew responded, “I thought you already were my girlfriend.” Kelsey, of course, made him ask properly. Over the next 4 years, the couple lived in different cities and states, creating a foundation of communication and trust that will serve them well throughout their lives. Kelsey and Drew survived not only long distance but also supported each other and navigated young adulthood through graduate school and the highs and lows of professional baseball. On January 26th, 2025, Drew proposed to Kelsey in Arizona while hiking at Lake Pleasant Regional Park, surrounded by their dear friends Jared and Julianna. From two kids who grew up across the country from one another to two adults intertwining their lives in holy matrimony, God’s hand has been evident every step of the way.
