Question

What time is the ceremony? What time is the reception?

Answer

The ceremony will begin promptly at 5:30PM. Guests should arrive at the John Ball Zoo parking lot no later than 5:00PM to allow for enough time to take the provided transportation up to the ceremony space at the Bissell Tree House. Transportation up to the ceremony location will begin at 4:45PM. A cocktail hour will immediately follow the ceremony and the reception will begin at approximately 6:30PM. How do we get to the ceremony?

Answer

Once guests park in the John Ball Zoo parking lot, there will be zoo staff available to direct guests to the transportation method to reach the ceremony spot at the Bissell Tree House. Guests will either take a cable car (weather permitting) or a shuttle bus up to the venue. Both transportation options are provided free to wedding guests. Both modes can transport approximately 25-30 guests per 10 minute round trip. Guests must arrive by 5:00PM to ensure they reach the venue prior to the beginning of the ceremony.

Will transportation be provided?

Answer

We are not providing any formal transportation for the wedding, but the ceremony and reception are at the same space and the reception will immediately follow the ceremony! Additionally, Grand Rapids has many ride share options including Lyft and Uber, if guests prefer not to drive from the hotel.

Is there easy parking available? Can guests leave their cars overnight?

Answer

There is ample parking available at the John Ball Zoo and guests are able to leave their cars overnight if needed. Parking at the zoo is free and the parking lot will be secured after all guests who will be taking their cars home that evening leave. Guests can retrieve their cars beginning at 10AM the following morning if they choose to leave them overnight.

Will the wedding be indoors or outdoors?

Answer

The wedding venue has both indoor and outdoor areas. The ceremony and cocktail hour will be outdoors under a covered roof. The reception will be indoors. If the weather is too cold, there will be heaters provided in the outdoor spaces.

Can we bring our children?

Answer

We love children, especially yours, but this will be an adults only wedding.

Will you be having an unplugged ceremony?

Answer

Yes! We are so excited that you'll be joining us, and we want you to relax and be fully present for our ceremony. We have a wonderful photographer who will capture every moment, and we'll make sure you see those photos as soon as we do! With this in mind, we ask that you refrain from taking any photos during the ceremony, and to please keep your cell phones on silent and in your bags! We thank you immensely in advance.

What will the weather be like?

Answer

October in Michigan is typically beautiful! Temperatures range from mid-50s to 60s, however we do occasionally get an unseasonably warm or cold day! As the ceremony and cocktail hour will be outdoors under a covered roof, we suggest guests bring outer layers in case they get cold!

Do you have a room block?

Answer

Yes! Please visit the Travel section of our website for more information! Our room block is located at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in Downtown Grand Rapids.

What time should guests arrive at the hotel?

Answer

Check in at the Amway Grand Plaza is 4:00PM. Guests must arrive at John Ball Zoo by 5:00PM. If you are unable to get ready within this time and arrive at the venue by 5:00PM we recommend arriving a day prior to the ceremony to allow yourself enough time and to enjoy the amazing city that is Grand Rapids!

Answer

Unfortunately, due to venue restrictions, we are unable to accommodate additional plus ones. We appreciate your understanding!

I have dietary restrictions? What is the best way to communicate that with you?

Answer

We definitely want to make sure you enjoy your time and meal on our wedding day, please let us know when you RSVP (link) about your dietary needs.
