While Colorado and the Rocky Mountains are an amazing place to live and play, there are a few things you should know before the big day... 1. You’ve probably heard that Denver is the “Mile High City.” Why? Denver happens to sit at 5,280 feet above sea level. (The venue sits at 8,504 feet) Unfortunately, this means there is a slight chance that you may experience some altitude sickness. For most people this presents as a mild headache. You can help prevent this by drinking plenty of water before and during the trip and by avoiding strenuous activities. 2. You will experience the effects of alcohol as well as any of the other substances our state is know for harder and faster. Consider easing into the libations and doing a little more passing than puffing. 3. Colorado is a dry climate! Remember that part about drinking water? In addition to every family having at least one Subaru, a dog, and a favorite craft brewery hang out, it is not uncommon to see Coloradans carrying a water bottle covered in stickers with them everywhere. Be sure to up your water intake and pack things like chapstick and lotion. 4. Sunscreen is a must, even on days when the sun is not out and it is a bit chilly. As you increase in elevation, the atmosphere is thinner and does not filter out the UV rays as efficiently. (Approximately 30% less effective here than at sea level). Unfortunately this is a concept Charlie still struggles to grasp. 5. Bring clothing for a variety of weather. Colorado weather in general, combined with differing weather at elevation can make things unpredictable. While temperatures are typically still warm during the day in September, snow is not out of the question. Bring layers so you can adjust throughout the day. We look forward to seeing everyone in September!
