The short version of this story is that we met through swing dancing... but who scrolls to this section to read the short version? Somewhere between 2016-2018, Alex and Maggie met at a dance exchange along the East Coast. You meet a lot of people at these events, so it wasn't a big deal. At the time, we both had our time and attention focused elsewhere, so this was not where our story began. Fast forward to June 2022... Maggie moved to Charleston for work, where Alex had been assigned since 2021. Being among the only singletons in the Charleston "dance fam," consideration was given to each other, but nothing was pursued. After all, Alex was pursuing becoming an LDO and would be reassigned shortly, and Maggie had always sworn off dating anyone in the military. By fall, both of them had begun getting to know each other better and were asking their friend, Gabby, whether the other was interested. She dissuaded them knowing that Alex would be moving relatively soon, and Maggie was interested in a long-term relationship. In March 2023, coordinated by Lindsey, the Charleston dance fam descended on a cabin in Saluda, NC. The first night, Maggie and Alex found themselves sharing life stories and discussing everything under the sun. But the sun was nowhere to be seen, as they talked late into the night. The next day was eventful as everyone went on a hike, and some went dancing. Sitting on a swing that evening, Alex asked Maggie what she thought about their connection moving forward. She replied that though she wanted to opt in, she believed they would be "setting [themselves] up for disaster." All the impractical logistics were laid out. Despite that conversation, Maggie and Alex went on their first dates, brunching the following weekend. Maggie received a crash course on all things Navy, and they decided they would see where things would go and make the hard choices when the time came. The next year, before departing for his new ship, Alex took Maggie on her first cruise and popped the question. They managed to squeeze in an engagement photo session, and just like that, he was off to his assignment. With a wedding on the books for the following July, they eloped while Alex's ship was in port in San Diego on July 29th, 2024. So here we are: married, hopeful, and long-distance. But we're excited about the adventure we've signed up for together and look forward to celebrating with you. That's right- the party is still on! Disclaimer: Gabby is very supportive of our relationship.
