We first met in the summer of 2014 in Dallas. Daenna went in for a haircut at Goldline Barber Shop to get a then popular girls haircut called an undercut. I made sure she walked out of there with the best haircut I could possibly give. At the time we were both in separate relationships and we kept in touch through haircut appointments mostly. I had never in my life been more jealous of another man then I was of her then boyfriend. She brought a whole different energy when she sat in my chair. I then promised myself that if the universe, through it's crazy twists and turns presented the opportunity where I could ask her out that I would drop everything to take that shot. That opportunity came for me in 2017 when I was in a totally new place in my life. I was patient and decided I would go back to the promise I made to myself in 2014. I sent her a message on Instagram... She was single!!!! I went for the long shot... the woman of my dreams... a woman that was way out of my league. The long shot that I went for and that promise that I kept has gained me a lifetime partner. Not just for me but for my son Benny. Now here we are... getting married and ready to celebrate this "long shot". A long shot that now includes YOU, our friends and families. A promise made back in 2014 is also to be made when we get married in 2021 and a promise to be made for a life time. ALWAYS GO FOR THE LONG SHOT!
The green lights had to be given... the green light from my son Benny, from my brothers Carlos and Miguel, a green light from her brother Evan and one from my best friend Johnny but the most important green light had to come from the queen of all green lights... Daenna's mom Josefina. The day I asked Josefina for her daughter's hand in marriage was the scariest day of my life. Just the thought of her saying NO terrified me... so I brought Benny along with me. I figured it would be harder to say NO to two sweet Donjuan boys. It worked like a charm and we had our final green light. I booked a trip to Laguna Beach in Orange County California. It was a place i fell in love with at first sight. The same way I fell in love with Daenna. So it made perfect sense. On our first day there, I convinced her to shoot some photos during sunset on the beach in her beautiful sundress. As she stood facing the ocean I asked her not to move as it was "the perfect picture". When she turned around I was down on one knee and NO words could come out of my mouth... I simply yelled "YES OR NO"?!!! She yelled back "YES"!!! We laughed and cried a little and the small crowd on the beach clapped for us. She called her mom and I called my son. I remember feeling a strong energy coming from the ocean... the sun was setting and the waves were crashing and I realized I was missing one last green light... the one that needed to come from the man that raised this wonderful woman. I ran straight into the water fully clothed and felt the presence of Daenna's dad in that beautiful warm water. I went in for a heavenly hug from the man I will FOREVER be indebted to. Daenna will tell you first hand how her dad has always been present in our relationship and especially during that entire trip. I'll forever cherish every single one of these little green lights i've been blessed with. Now we get to celebrate with you!!!
