Chapter 1: The Rom Com

What if someone you never met, someone you never saw, someone you never knew was the only someone for you?

It all started in an airport. Marisa Ishimatsu (Meg Ryan) was living in Emeryville with her mom. She had a full time job, but had recently accepted a short term gig in the desert. She spent September and October of 2015 flying back and forth between San Francisco and San Diego every week. She got to know that Southwest terminal very well... Dacklin Young (Tom Hanks) was a visual effects artist who had recently moved to San Francisco. Missing his friends and family in Southern California, he had just spent his 30th birthday on a road trip culminating in some quality time with his sister Emily (Rita Wilson) in San Diego. As he waited for his plane in the Southwest terminal, he ate an Einstein Bros bagel and contemplated his new decade. He watched the people flowing through the airport; harassed looking mother, businessmen, woman in a cowboy hat, vacationers... He sighed and walked to the trashcan to dispose of his bagel wrapper. As he walked back to his bags, he noticed that the woman in the cowboy hat was standing on the other side of the table, charging her phone. "Damn, I was about to steal all of your sh*t", said Marisa. "What?", asked Dacklin, confused. "Yeah you have a Ray Bans case. I need a new pair of Ray Bans." "Uh. What?" ...and thus began the love story.

Chapter 2: Perseverance Pays off

An Ordinary Man Forced to Become An Extraordinary Hero

Dackin liked Marisa. Marisa....didn't know what she wanted, but thought Dacklin was interesting and cute. Dacklin invited Marisa on a date. It was only weeks after that Marisa even realized it was a date, but she did have fun watching Back To The Future (for the very first time) at ILM. Marisa didn't think she was right for Dacklin and instead set him up with one of her friends. Luckily for Marisa, it didn't go well. Marisa and Dacklin continued to talk and hang out for the next few months. Soon it was two weeks to Valentine's Day and Marisa realized she didn't want to spend the holiday with anyone else.

Chapter 3: The Adventure Begins

If adventure has a name... it must be Marisa.

Dacklin knew this wouldn't be a typical relationship from the start. Within the first few months, Marisa had dragged him all over northern California and, much to his mother's alarm, shown him his first rattlesnakes. Marisa would come home filthy and covered in poison oak after long days in the field, but Dacklin never minded. She opened his eyes to the world beyond computers and movies. She'd disappear to the Amazon or Australia for weeks at a time only to reappear with photos of her with pythons and anacondas. They toured the world, exploring Paris, Spain, and India together. They'd camp under the stars and talk about hopes, dreams, and photography. They shared a small apartment in San Francisco and Dacklin adopted a cat. Marisa soon adopted one too, and Marisa warned Dacklin that once the cats became friends, it would be cruel to ever separate them. Dacklin promised that the issue would never come up, but it still took him a long time to propose. Marisa kept faith...

Chapter 4: Happily Ever After

The future is whatever you make it...so make it a good one.

We're ready to start the next chapter of our lives. We know that these are difficult times. Some of you will be celebrating with us in person, while others will be watching live online. We are so honored that all of you will be with us on our special day, and we're so thankful to have you in our lives.

Afterward: Why Now

When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.

“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo. “So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
