Where Our Story Began

August 3rd, 2020

We met pretty unexpectedly. We were both invited to a mutual friend’s house last minute and despite our busy lives, something told us to go. We sat in inflatable tubes in the driveway and chatted. Spencer asked his sister about me and if I was single once he had left and later on, I got a message from him. He asked me on a date! A few weeks later…

Our First Date

August 28th, 2020

Our first date was during the peak of COVID-19. We went to see John Wick but were way too early, so we killed time by hitting Walmart first. Spencer had me laughing the whole time and it calmed my nerves. After the movie, we drove around searching for food and the only place open was Taco Bell. It’s now our favorite fast food place!

It’s Official!

October 4th, 2020

The dreaded day of meeting the parents. I stressed all day about the typical parent meeting things. “Are you sure they’ll like me?” “What are they like?” “What should I wear?” “Can we go shopping because I don’t have a nice outfit.” “I’m nervous.” “Do we have to go?” “Do I look okay?” Questions filled the air for hours. We drove up into the driveway, and I had the biggest knot in my stomach. When we walked in, I instantly felt relief. I felt welcomed and loved even if I had just met these people. The night progressed and we decided to watch TV. Bojack Horseman, to be precise. Spencer finally looked at me and said “I have a question for you”. I knew what was about to happen and instantly turned red. “Will you be my girlfriend?” Without even giving an answer, I just said “I’ve been waiting for you to ask”.

The YES!

October 2nd, 2021

It was (almost) our anniversary and we had been trying to schedule a photo shoot with my mom. The weather kept changing but finally, October 2nd was the day. It wasn’t as planned because it wasn’t our exact anniversary, but it was still the perfect day. Spencer put the ring in his pocket and drove to Great Island Commons in Newcastle. He was definitely nervous, as my dad would unexpectedly be there. Spencer searched for the perfect spot to pop the question and just went for it. Right up against the water, he gave the signal. We stood for a picture and I looked down to see Spencer on one knee. It was the easiest yes I ever said. The excitement got to me and I chased Spencer around the beach, breaking my favorite shoes in the process.
