We started that Saturday in our favorite way: making breakfast together. Then Dillon picked up his guitar and sang a song that he made up on the spot recounting our relationship over the last couple of years and I absolutely melted. Then we pulled up photos from the first year or so of our relationship, before he moved up to Ohio. We talked about some of our favorite and funniest memories about dating at the beginning of Covid, dates we went on, and how I started going to church with him more and more. From there, we hopped in the car, and I had no idea where we were going. After a little while, the drive started to look familiar. It was the same drive we had taken together for many many Sundays after attending church in Marion driving back up to his house in Fremont. When we got to Fremont, we parked in front of his old house and looked at pictures from the past year or so since he moved away. We remembered packing up all of his things and moving him up there, lots of weekend visits full of adventures to Cedar Point, fort-building, and ice cream, as well as the challenges we've faced together in a long-distance relationship. Our drive continued from Fremont, but this time I really had no idea where we were going. Eventually we came up to the town of Marblehead, Ohio - a place that we had talked about visiting but hadn't made it to. It has a beautiful lighthouse that sits on a peninsula on Lake Erie. That day it was 20 degrees with 20 mph wind, and we did the math - that's a wind chill of a crisp 4 degrees! Despite the cold, we walked around the lighthouse talking about our excitement to share our life together, and Dillon got down on one knee and pulled out the most stunning ring and asked me to marry him!
